Stop Talking
screenprint, 2018I was so inspired by French director and experiential
designer Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun that I screenprinted
this poster to mark her visit to RISD in 2018.
I first encountered Nelly a year prior at Beatrice Galilee’s
2017 In Our Time symposium at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Nelly spoke alongside designers such as Diller Scofidio + Renfro,
OMA and Yves Béhar, giving such a standout presentation
that my cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
Typeset in Francis Gradient designed by Nikola Djurek, the poster’s text is taken from Nelly’s lecture, in which she advised to stop talking and start making; to become friends with everyone—especially the technicians; to bring cake to pitches; to always make eye contact; and perhaps most importantly, to never accept ‘no’ for an answer until it becomes a ‘yes.’
